A situation of confinement, confined to one space, one view, one position, one moment in time. Confinement is the new normal, where seeking and exploring one’s fixed surroundings, can revoke new rituals. Could even more rituals and rules create an inner structure that is needed in these times?
Making a “self-portrait” in times of confinement, I started looking at the reality I was in now, where one view, from one table, had become the creating landscape. I tried to imagine who I was now, but I had the urge to look out first for then to return back to the inside.
With all the new official rules, I found myself seeking my own rules to have a paradoxical dimension of freedom. It created a frame for the rules to grow into the story of time, distance and the imagination of confinement in one’s mind. One rule was made to seek the physicality and to have an analogue production in a digital world, where I could embody time into a physical statement. Among other rules, is to write and to collect words about me by sharing the videos with people that know me very well, which could give deeper insight to me and the stories in the videos.
