Working with two of Ulrik Plesner's buildings, Skagens Museum and Skagens railway station, Ida and Mimi have created the light installation FRONT-BACK. Both buildings are built with a focus on authenticity, simplicity and local materials and appear with their size and facade decoration, as monumental sculptures in the townscape.

However, a building is also all that’s hidden behind the facade and where the museum contains an important tale of the city's history, the railway station has lost its proper function as a railway station.

By drawing parallels to rhythms in the two buildings’ façades and the Utzon building, the installation appears from the outside symmetrically and flat as a facade. The inside of the installation contains a pattern of black surfaces that leads one's way through the space. The black surfaces are inspired by the museum's modern extension, which appears tall and uninviting compared to its surroundings.

Human movement through the installation will affect its expression when viewed from the outside. It is therefore the people who move through the installation that gives it a spatial feel. The light is warm, coloured by Skagen's red and yellow colours, and the installation is an abstract interpretation of the building's appearance and use.

Special thanks to Cosmos Trawl and Kulturhus Kappelborg.

Reflektor light Festival

Year: 2017

Reflektor Light Festival 2017 in Søndermarken Copenhagen, I was head of the lighting- and interior design. The theme was light in the darkness.

We created a soft lighted spot by using the darkness of the park. The area had to welcome people to have a drink, hear lectures and get information simultaneously. The gentle light diffused by thin textiles created a shadow play within the materials and around it, bringing the ceiling down to make it feel more intimate, so people wanted to hang out. We used plants to create more significant shadowplay on the outside of the tent to dissolve the circus feeling and make it fit the nature around it.

The design was made in cooperation with Mimi Ravn and Lisbeth Dam. Organising and setting up were made in collaboration with electricians and volunteers. Thank Kvadrat for sponsoring the textiles.
